Exam Prep, One Topic at a Time

Exam preparation has never been an area I was strong in. I find it hard to Anticipate Test Questions. Luckily there is a strategy to help me prepare for exams by anticipating test problems. The 5 sources of information recommended was a great way to organize this strategy. The first source was the Syllabus. When looking over the syllabus I got a feel for where the most important information comes from. For my exams in my lecture courses almost all of the test questions come directly from lectures and class discussions. This was very valuable information which led me to utilize Jeopardy Test Questions while in class during the lectures. This goes along with the second source of information, the professor's questions. In class listening to the questions and ideas that the professor stresses is a great way to Anticipate Test Questions. Creating a way to test your self is very useful and can help prepare for an exam. After I anticipated the questions for my Music exam, I made note cards which helped me to test my self in an efficient way. These cards helped me to connect details and ideas so that it made it more clear to understand. I created the cards based on topic. Studying by TOPIC and not source is the way to go. By going through each topic and creating questions, it provides a way of really seeing the importance in each specific topic. There have been no previous exams or quizzes in my HOM 165 course. Using previous exams is a huge help when trying to Anticipate Test Questions. For my lecture courses I used the previous quizzes and online assessment to study for the exams. This is a way to get a feel for what the professor asks and what information he is stressing. This is definitely a helpful way to anticipate test questions. When going over the previous questions you can get a sense of where most of the information is coming from. Also I used the previous quiz questions to get a feel for why kind of questions they are. Does he ask definition, cause and effect, listings, ect. This is a good way to predict what kind of questions he will be asking in the future. All of these ways to anticipate test questions, is a great way to prepare for an exam and is one of the best ways to learn the information. Hopefully the questions I predicted will show up on the actual exams I will be taking in the future. This strategy was a huge help.
